Entry 2010 - 99 - "The Brave & the Bold"

The Brave & the Bold - Deadman & Batman (2 DC comics' characters)

Mens Size 7

The shoes feature Deadman (a ghastly detective) reverse-possessing Batman and leaving his body. On the back of Deadman's shoe is an actual bat drawing with my website listed. On the back of Batman's shoe is a circus tent & trapeze ropes. The pair has a grim, gray wash background.

The shoes took about a week to make. They are also on display at my local comic book store, Captain's Comics & Toys in Charleston, SC.

Entry 2010 - 97 - "One Night of Sin"

Before "Artifex Jay", my blogspot page was originally called "The Cross-Hatch King". I love the use of crosshatching much more than shading.
Here's 2 Portraits using hatching (similar to my portrait). The 2nd's an unknown person. The first portrait is someone who sings the title of this post.

Both were created last night/this morning from 1-3am.

Comment if you want or like it.

Entry 2010 - 94 - "Autumn 4 Robert F. Kennedy"

I took a class about 1 or 2 years ago called Computer Imagery 2, an more challenging advanced photoshop class taught by one of my favorite professors. It was a Tom Ogburn class and he would have us do these mini projects "on the spot" called Spot Illustrations. We'd have between 5-20min to find recognizable, iconic images and make the kind of image that would appear on a newscast like CNN or MSNBC or Fox...I mean...CNN.

And most days, Ogburn would make up a Spot Illustration idea on the spot, literally, for us to do. And for this one I've posted, its one of Robert F. Kennedy with a semi-iconic image on an autumn theme and RFK for subtlety.

Entry 2010 - 84 - "Tattoo Series: Fu Cranium"

Even though I don't have any, I love tattoos. I'm especially amazed by some intricate designs, vibrant colors, and even the ability to make something great with simplicity. I had an interest in them ever since elementary school, picking and wearing wash offs X-Men tattoos.

On occasion, I pick-up and flip through tattoo magazines, websites, and TV shows. I get more amazed by South Carolina tat artists because down here a great tattoo artist is as easy to find as a Chupacabra. Lately, I check out the coolest work by Jun Cha (in CA), BodyRites (in SC) and Yellowblaze (in Japan).

Start of this week I was watching Miami Ink and LA on night, the very next day at work I started doing a sketch and then inking it the next day. The shows and the sketch I made reminded me to get back working on my possible or never existing tattoo that I need to design for myself.

The drawing that's posted on here will start a series of devoted to tattoo influenced designs. And I'll aid color in separate posts.

Entry 2010 - 80 - "An Artist's Muse"

An Artist's Muse can consist of a lot of different activities and programs which inspires that artist/designer to create and make their artwork.
My muse used to mostly consist of video games, japanese manga, comic books and action movies. I haven't consistently played a video game in about 1-2years now. Curently my muse is music (almost everything but country music), comic books, action/sci-fi/comedy/fantasy/drama/horror/adventure/historic movies, old cartoons, history/mythology, anatomy, theawesomer.com, and artists of old and new. (Art deco, art noveau, pop art and renaissance too)
*the mainstream, corporatized radio is exempt from this post.
Music is a constant expression and catalyst for creativity.
From now on, if I'm too busy to post any of my artwork then I'll post something that inspires me

'Entry 2010 - 77 - "Iron & 2099 Arachnid"

Since I do not make the same designs twice, when asked to do another Spider-Man pair, I chose my favorite version (the future one, not peter). Client wanted Iron Spidey especially and his tattooing group name on here too. And instead of my initials, "Artifex Jay" is listed (*fanboy favorites)

Left Shoe: Spider-Man 2099 (Future Version) on the toe. 2099. The Green Goblin and his jack-o-lantern bombs on the inner side of the shoe. "Artifex Jay" and more bombs on the outer side of the shoe.

Right Shoe: Iron Spider-Man on the toe. Doc Octopus and his tentacles on the inner side of the shoe. "Vigilante Ink" on the outer side of the shoe.
