MMXI - 026 - "Under Blossom"

Part of Orientation Day was a losing battle for geographical direction against new surroundings and mobile gps. I've yet to hear about the a grand, gung-ho operation system of a mobile phone map. So I was searching for a Wachovia and turned to my handy dandy mobile gps. My phone took me about 4+ blocks away from school campus.

[Take note the phone's gps was set on "Walking Mode" not "Driving Mode"]

"Walking Mode" took me from a sidewalk to under an actual overpass and crossed over some train tracks. Under the overpass felt and looked like a completely different world. A world of torn clothes, old dirty furniture, worn mattresses and a plethora of red dirt. Among the things of homelessness was graffiti: good, bad, and not-so-good. Taking these pictures made up for the failure of my mobile phone's directions. The very first picture was the very last one I took down there, mainly because it signifies Crip territory.

[PS. My phone never took me where I needed to go. The bank was on campus]

MMXI - 013 - "Dick's Robot"

This character was created by someone else, an old classmate named Richard. I followed their word detail & a few thumbnails to create my style/version of it. I still think it looks kinda like Mega-Man. Its made all with colored pencils on Mi-Tentes textured paper.

MMXI - 012 - "Procrastinex Jay"

This sure counts as a "365 Post". So here goes, everyday I'm being sucked into this Internet Matrix (or Unternet) of multiple email addresses, countless instant messaging sites, and social networking. Seems like between the more I join, how involved I am and how much TV I watch is slowly but effectively weakening my creativity. Soon enough I'll be transformed from Artifex Jay, then disfigured and piled back together (using Google Gun, Mozilla Monstrosity and FB technology) to form Procrastinex J-J-Jay.

Procrastinex J-J-Jay does not draw at all. He has become a blobbing It. It uses no energy nor creativity nor can fathom the idea of ambition. It stares off into space but doesn't dream of the next wonder; It stares into the pixels of Social Identifying Statuses, Pictures of the same parties at the same faces, and Drama morphed into Mind-numbing action into Gossip. Procrastinex is living procrastination resulting from endless cybernetic and televised media. It is so distracted that simply saying and pronouncing Jay may takes at least 3 healthy tries.

The media isn't all bad, it just needs to be handled in moderation. Type, tube, view, download in moderation. The best websites to inspire the most creatively stuck souls: WoosterCollective.com, Behance.net, (technicusjay.blogspot.com - maybe), DeviantArt.com, Artcrimes.com and many more.

To increase my productivity and creativity, I'll isolate myself to only a meditative state of music, blank paper, a search engine and my art desk. And after a few hours something is started and made to be finished another day or posted for all to see. Then TV/Movies and Internet in moderation.

On another note, there's now a Twitter ArtifexJay. Whether you follow or not, I'll still be posting artwork (or randomness) on here everyday until the end of 2011.

On another note once more, I have a Behance page as well to showcase some art projects.

(Ignore the first 2 paragraphs, there'll be a Drawing for Tomorrow's Post)

MMXI - 009 - "Orange Colored Sky"

[Nat King Cole]

I was walking along, minding my business,
When out of an orange-colored sky,
Flash! Bam! Alakazam!
Wonderful you came by.

I was humming a tune, drinking in sunshine,
When out of that orange-colored view
Flash! Bam! Alakazam!
I got a look at you.

One look and I yelled "Timber"
"Watch out for flying glass"
Cause the ceiling fell in and the bottom fell out,
I went into a spin and I started to shout,
"I've been hit, This is it, This is it!"

I was walking along, minding my business,
When love came and hit me in the eye,
Flash! Bam! Alakazam!
Out of an orange-colored sky.

MMXI - 007 - "Crash, Burn, Evolve"

(Before PS)

Towards the end of 2010, I created my entry for the 2011 Charleston Wine & Food Design Contest (Congrats to the winner Sam Deitch).

For my entry, I wanted to use a different medium than watercolor. I used Scratchboard and etched in some basic elements for a food and wine theme (corkscrew, few veggies, and shrimp). I etched, I scanned and I digitally added color in PS.

(After PS)

Etching & Crosshatching Gold!

Its another loss for me but every loss gives me room to Crash, Burn, Adapt and Evolve.

MMXI - 006 - "Artifex Jay Dot Com"

www.artifexjay.com

Up above these very words is a URL for my actual ".com" website. Artifex Jay, the name, is beginning to become the only result listed (first page) of a Google search. Great!

I made this website very slowly throughout 2010 (I may tear it down & re-design it). The site lists my contact in such as cell number & email. A sample of my portfolio is there too containing Digital/Hand Drawn Illustrations as well as Graphic Design and Custom Shoes.

Pure Imagination!
