MMXI - 087 - "East Relief"
For my Advanced illustration class, I had to try my hand at making Collages. This collage was made with the Red Cross/Japan Relief in mind. This is the start, the finish contains grayscale, paint and a white backdrop.
None of the images I used are from any recent book/magazines. No image was about the recent Japanese natural disasters either.
The most interesting clipping is on the right center that reads "SHAKE THE WORLD" (I added an "S"), its from a 3-4 year ad for Swatch watches. The ad's photoshoot was taken in Japan to0.

MMXI - 074 - "Some Guy Today"
I was late for my first class this morning. And through my 2nd Green Light, I saw this guy.
This guy who was dressed for success or a private school, the only drawbacks were the neck up and the bag he carried. Beaten black dress shoes, nice-fitting khaki slacks, a nice blue blazer with gold buttons, a white button-up shirt, and a candy apple tie flapping in the wind.
The bag looked like it been in some World Wars and seen better days. And the guy's neck up, well, he looked like a damn zombie.
Some Guy Today, with some zombified look on his face (he'd looked like he'd seen better days); an "ethnic" complexion with heavy bags under/around his eyes, ear to ear back-around hair, jaw dropped and....yeah

MMXI - 067 - Civil Unity
A few weeks ago Charleston, SC had a Call for Entries for their celebration of the Civil War's Sesquicentennial Anniversary. The Call for Entries was open to any SC artists to traditionally make a Poster Design. I completed my design in the nick of time but heard no word of the results. Oh well, here's for all to see. Took 2weeks to make.
I didn't want to be one-sided since I'm from the South and the celebration is too. I wanted to illustrate both sides of the war. And all the faces in the piece are drawn from actual photos of Civil War soldiers, both Confederate and Federal.

MMXI - 064 - "Post Fifty-Seven"
"Post 057" or "Art Versus Design"
The man in this post is the same as Post 057 from the Feb 27's post. The day I made that post, I wrote that the man was done in grayscale watercolor and digitally colored. I also said that it's part of another project for one of my classes.
For that project we had to illustrate the content of an article title, "Art Vs Design" by someone of the AIGA's website. The article wasn't literally about the fight between "Art" and "Design". It was about the difference between the two. Art by artists are creating from expression and without instructions or rules to follow from someone else, unlike the assignments of designers. The article really posed a question: What will the Artist become once their work looks more like a "Design" than an "Art" from feeling?
Here's my finished project up above all of these words (by the way, everything besides the man was creating with a computer design program).
So, in case an Artists Art turns into Design, Break glass!
The solution to this emergency will be reflected in that individual as an Artist and/or Designer!

MMXI - 063 - "Amazon, Diana"
Also draw today, after the Ochre Heroes, the Amazonian heroine, Wonder Woman (mixed with a Jamie Chung/Complex stance).
Still, trying to find my style, I promise to redraw this or redesign it.
